PRESENTATION :

EL Manar Preparatory Institute for Engineering Studies is a high education institution created on:

14 August 2001 by decree n° .2001-1912 .

The objective of the two - year programme it offers is to ensure a solid fondamental scientific and technological traning that prepares students to sit for the national entry exams to engineering studies .

TEACHING

The Institute Preparatory offers a two-year programme of general scientific and Technocal Studies.
These Preparatory Studies cover currently only one section , Technology wich is open to students having a Technical Baccaloreate.
For tutorials , the students of the Preparatory Cycle are divided into groups .
Teaching is supported by a system of continuous assesment through written and oral examinations , class assignments in all taught subjects and a general examination at the end of every terme to allow for an additional assesment of the knowledge and skills of students .
This system aims at inciting students to work and make steady efforts all through the academic year . The Class Board deliberates at the end of the academic year to decide on those who pass to the second year .
At the end of the second year , the students can :
Following the autorisation of the Class Board , sit for the national entry examination to engineering studies ( Technology Examination ) .
Get the Univercity Studies Diploma , for those students who , during the second year of studies , have obtained a grade equal or superior to ten ( 10 ) out of twenty ( 20 ).
 

System of Studies

-Assiduity of students in the preparatory Cycle is compulsory .
-Any unjustified absence from class entails a warning from the Director of the Director of the Institute .
-Three such warnings absence from class entail the examination of the case by the Institue's Disciplinary Committee .
-Teaching in the " Technology " section is split into two years and organised on an annual basis .
-Taeching covers 30 weeks at least during the first year and 26 weeks during the second year .
-The courses are taught by lectures , tutorials and lab work .
                                                                   
Examinations System

- The skills and Knowledge acquired by students are assessed regularly and continuously by written and oral examinations.
- Exams can have a theoretical or a practical aspect . They include assessment examinations , class or lab assignments and end of term examination .
- For every subject taught , at least one assessment examination an one class assignment are held each term .
- In addition , the end of term examination covers all subjects .Every student has to sit for an oral examination , at least on one subject each term . Every written , practical or written examination is assessed by a mark between nought ( 0 ) and twenty ( 20 ) .
- At the end of every term , the average of marks obtained in all subjects for every student is worked out one the basis of the marks obtained in the different written , lab or oral examinations as folows :
Assessment and oral examinations : 20%
Class assignments (theory and lab) :30%
End-of-term examination : 50%

For subjects with lab work , the average is worked out as follows :
Assessment exams : 20%
Class assignements : 20%
Lab work : 20%
End-of-term examination : 40%

For every student , a term average is worked out according to the following coefficients :

1st Year : " Technologie "

1st Year : " Math - Physique " & " " Physique - Chimie "

2nd Year " Technologie "

Three term reports for 1st Year students and three for second year students cover the results achived by the students of the Preparatory Cycle , an account of their assiduty , the appreciations of teachers as well as the opinion of the Class Board .
- The Class Board , on the basis of the yearly report on the marks obtained by the student and the skill he / she acquired , decides on whether he / she passes to the 2nd Year the Preparatory Cycle .
- By virtue of Decree N° 2002 - 1838 dated 12 August 2002 , defining the general framwork of studies in the Preparatory , Cycles to Engineering Studies , repeating is allowed only once , either at the 1st or at the 2nd Year
Authorization to sit for the national entry examination to engineering studies is granted to second - Year students of the Preparatory Cycle who meet the conditions of scieitific level and assiduity defined by the class Board .
- In case of failture , students who have lost their right to register for the Second Year of the preparatory Cycle , are autorized to register in the second year of the scientific or technical Bachelor Degree at the Tunis El Manar University or, failing that , at another university .
